Honoring Our Legacy: 110 Years of Jewish Home Family

Join us for an evening, honoring Taran and Howard Chernin. We will be celebrating 110 years of Jewish Home Family’s impact in our community with cocktails, dinner and dancing!

Taran and Howard Chernin

Howard and Taran photoWhen you ask Taran and Howard Chernin about their children, one of the first things they both say is that they wanted each of their three daughters to “follow their passion.” And each one has done just that, inspired by the passions that their parents have modeled for them, for their careers and for their community.
Howard and Taran met on a blind date in 1985. The woman who set them up was the wife of one of Howard’s friends. Turns out her instinct about the two of them was right, as on that very first date, Howard told Taran that they were going to get married!
Both Taran and Howard feel strongly about the importance of community involvement. In fact, Taran’s mother, Myra Sheinker, was the first elected female Water and Fire Commissioner in the United States. She was elected in Garden City Park, Long Island. Howard attributes his community activism to Taran’s influence. His first foray into philanthropy was with the YJCC in Washington Township. He was active with many organizations, before becoming engaged with the Jewish Home Family just over a decade ago.
Howard loves meeting and connecting with people and finding out “how I can help them and make a difference.” He is excited about his work with the Jewish Home Family because he “can see change happening.” Howard says that “the future is very bright” for the Jewish Home and he is excited to be a part of it.
It has been a busy 15 months for the Chernin’s. All three of their daughters, Amanda, Cara, and Jenna were married. Mazel Tov!
